Energy providers are searching for innovative smart metering concepts that on the one hand can measure and process the power consumption of customers, and on the other hand also solve the problem of secure data transmission. IEQualize, the Leipzig, Germany-based home automation specialist, has developed an innovative and cost-effective product called the IEQ-Box, which relies on devolo‘s dLAN® technology in the area of data communication to transmit energy data quickly, securely and easily. It transmits the data to energy providers, so that they can bill accounts more accurately, but above all to end customers, so that they can better understand their power consumption and thus save energy and money.
Equipping residential spaces and commercially used facilities with so-called „smart power meters“ is governed by an EU directive and is gradually being introduced in Germany effective 1 January 2010. In future, consumers will receive a detailed overview of their consumption data.
In addition to the smart power meters, implementation of the new directives requires a cost-effective communication solution to transmit energy consumption data that is reliable for billing to the energy provider as well as to the consumer and to process these graphically. The option of installing an additional CAT cable network is not possible due to the horrendous costs involved.
With the IEQ-Box, IEQualize has created the perfect solution for real-time processing of energy consumption information at the customer‘s location and for transmitting it to the energy provider. The data is transmitted with dLAN® via powerlines that are already in the building.
