dLAN® for Gondwanaland

The Leipzig Zoo gives us a first glimpse into the new 'theme world' via devolo dLAN® – and is soon to bring high-speed internet access to its event rooms

Background

The Leipzig Zoo wants to give its visitors the opportunity of following the progress of the construction work at the new Gondwanaland theme area. The webcam images are not only to be shown on the zoo's website, but also on a screen right in the middle of the zoo.

Challenge

Apart from in the event buildings, there are no data lines in at all on this extensive site. Transmission of digital images by wireless LAN is not possible because the long distances and many obstacles disrupt the wireless connection. Budgetary constraints and the disruption which would be caused to the animals rule out any costly construction work.

Solution

On the zoo premises, there is an extensive telephone network which covers nearly the entire site. With devolo dLAN®, the recorded images of the construction site are transmitted via the twowire copper lines to within close proximity of the information container. The remaining distance is covered with wireless LAN.

Reliable data transmission - despite long distances, many obstacles and a lack of network wiring.
As well as learning all about Gondwanaland at the information container, visitors to the zoo can now also get a real impression of the complex construction work.
The zoo has also enhanced its offerings for business customers, because dLAN® technology by devolo is now also used to provide internet access in the zoo's event rooms.
