devolo combines Powerline and WLANNew dLAN Wireless extender available nowAachen, May 24, 2007—devolo AG, the networking specialist based in Aachen, Germany, has now made home networking even easier and yet more flexible. With the new dLAN Wireless extender, devolo unites the advantages of in-house powerline and WLAN in a single device. With data rates of up to 85 Mbps via dLAN and 54 Mbps via WLAN, this handy little adapter enables wireless surfing anywhere in the home. The new devolo product for PCs, notebooks or games consoles is retailing now as a Starter Kit (together with a dLAN Highspeed Adapter) for EUR 179.90 or individually for EUR 129.90. Combined technologies As the latest addition to devolo's successful range of dLAN products, the dLAN Wireless extender converts any power socket in the home into a network connection and a WLAN access point. This handy little device features a WLAN antenna which for the first time enables WLAN clients to connect to a dLAN network. This combination of the two networking technologies "Powerline" and "WLAN" allows users to establish a complete network within their own four walls—without limitations. That is because the dLAN Wireless extender even reaches into the most obscure corners where cabled networks exceed their physical limits. Data transfer between different storeys or through walls with the dLAN Wireless extender makes use of the existing household power supply. A 54 Mbps WLAN connection can be used within a room where a notebook is to be connected up via wireless, for example. The dLAN Wireless extender additionally features an Ethernet port for direct connection to a PC. Flexible and secure Anybody who needs to move their computer to a different floor or into another corner in their home will be online again within seconds. The dLAN Wireless extender is particularly easy to install and flexible in use. Simply unplug the adapter from its socket and plug it in again elsewhere. That's all. Security plays a major role and the dLAN Wireless extender's access point provides WEP, WAP and WAP2 encryption over WLAN. Powerline data transmissions are secured by the powerful DESpro encryption. In stores The devolo dLAN Wireless extender is retailing now and costs EUR 179.90 as a StarterKit (incl. dLAN Highspeed Adapter) or EUR 129.90 individually.
