devolo expands business line – dLAN 200 AVpro host for simple networking of large buildings using existing cable networks

devolo AG, the Aachen-based, inhouse powerline specialist, is expanding its business product portfolio and is introducing its new flagship, the dLAN 200 AVpro host

Aachen, Germany, 22 July 2008 – devolo AG, the Aachen-based, inhouse powerline specialist, is expanding its business product portfolio and is introducing its new flagship, the dLAN 200 AVpro host. This multifunctional adapter, housed in a metal case, can transmit data via antenna lines, telephone lines and electrical wiring, and offers full support for the remote configuration of dLAN networks. The application area for the dLAN 200 AVpro host includes networks in large buildings, such as multi-family buildings, hotels and clinics. When used as the master in a master-slave architecture, such as those typical used in professional applications, the dLAN 200 AVpro host can manage up to 253 slaves. A managed, integrated switch for setting up VLANs and full SNMP support for remote configuration complete the range of features.

With new dLAN business solutions, devolo is offering a new and particularly cost-effective way to create a broadband IP network using existing cable networks. There is an obvious advantage to this approach: no need to install a new cable network means keeping cost and effort to a minimum. The dLAN 200 AVpro host is the first HomePlug AV-based device on the market that provides remote maintenance and autoconfiguration for large dLAN networks in hotels, residential buildings and hospitals. As the flagship of the dLAN Business Series, the dLAN 200 AVpro host combines an abundance of functions into a single product; in addition to the Powerline Chip, this unit is equipped with an additional processor for processing data on the Ethernet side. This additional chip allows the integration of a multitude of network and configuration features.
The dLAN 200 AVpro host offers full support for remote maintenance of large dLAN networks, making it possible to configure and manage the device professionally via SNMP or through a web interface. Autoconfiguration makes it possible to configure additional dLAN adapters with ease, and integrate them into an existing network. Depending on the requirements of an application, the network can consist of several hundred end points, while multiple independent network segments can be operated in parallel. As a master device, the dLAN 200 AVpro host can manage up to 253 slaves.
The adapter transmits data over an existing cable network in a building at a transfer rate of up to 200 Mbps (using either antenna lines, electrical wiring or telephone cables), and thus is ideally suited for the transmission of broadband Multimedia content via IPTV, video on demand and VoiP telephony (Triple Play). The signal range extends up to 1500 metres in a coaxial network, up to 400 metres via telephone lines, and up to 200 metres through power cables.
An integrated, manageable switch permits the configuration of VLANs, so that four independent Ethernet connections can be mapped through a single adapter. Automatic port prioritisation regulates and controls data traffic, for example for realtime-critical voice and video data. For data prioritisation, the dLAN 200 AVpro host supports QoS (Quality of Service), both via dLAN and via Ethernet.

The dLAN 200 AVpro host is available immediately for 299.90 euro (suggested retail price including VAT).
