The devolo SMGWplus is available in three product variants for WAN communication:
The devolo SMGWplus LTE uses the public mobile network for smart metering communication. The LTE frequency bands 3 (1800 MHz), 7 (2600 MHz) and 20 (800 MHz) are supported. The fallback to GPRS is optional. This means that the devolo SMGWplus LTE can also use GPRS (in the 900 MHz or 1800 MHz frequency band) if required.
The devolo SMGWplus BPL uses the power grid for data communication. devolo uses modern G.hn technology for broadband communication. A robust and high-performance BPL network can be used by the network operator for smart metering including value-added services, as well as for smart grid applications.
The devolo SMGWplus ETH does not have an integrated WAN communication modem. Therefore it is intended for direct connection to existing communication infrastructures such as DSL, fibre optics or external communication modems.
devolo has split up its SMGWplus into two areas: the regulated BSI area (BSI being the Federal Office for Information Security in Germany) and the area for value-added services.
In the latter, value-added service apps can be installed remotely. This allows that new business models and services can be provided later using existing infrastructure.
